JMT Volunteer week
Hard-working volunteers make a difference
Many thanks to the hardy volunteers from the John Muir Trust who made it up to Inverie last week.
Sandy Maxwell, JMT's volunteer co-ordinator, was keeping everyone cheerful as usual. The first half of the week was also supervised by our Stalker, Jim Brown, and the second half by our Ranger, Tommy McManmon.
For the first three days they were all based up at the remote path which heads north from the Folach. Here, over 800m of ditching was completed, a tremendous achievement in muddy, difficult conditions. On the Thursday those who were shattered by ditching were able to cover themselves in bright orange rust as they helped dismantle a rusty old fence.
Friday and Saturday were spent in the environs of Inverie village and Long Beach, where the following was achieved: removal of old pony shelter, finshing off a fence, repairing of a rotten fence, removal of rubbish, filling of a raised bed in the community garden, adjusting the log cabin so it wouldn't hurt any more heads, AND digging a new long-drop toilet hole. Phew!
As well as the above activities, two volunteers managed to partake in the Dry-stane Dyking course, which means that they will feel very useful next time they're on a JMT property with a wall in need of repair!
Many thanks to Sandy and the crew for coming up; we look forward to seeing you here again. Photos to follow.
