Electricity is provided by our own hydroelectric scheme, which should give a 24-hour supply. However, there will be times when it is necessary to turn the system off for maintenance or other work (there is generally a timetable up in the Display Room window), so full service cannot be guaranteed! Should the system breakdown, we do have a back up generator to supply electricity to the village, but this will not run 24 hours a day. See the dedicated Knoydart Renewables page for further information; any other queries about electricity should be directed to the Foundation Office.
All properties are on private water supply - a bit of care in summer to help conserve resources is appreciated especially around the main village. See the information notices regarding safety of water in your accommodation venue - most places now have UV filters installed.
There is a laundry at the Foundation Bunkhouse - see the warden for details.
There is no mobile phone reception in Inverie - it can be received at some points along the road to Airor. Public phones are available in the pub, outside the Post Office (phone box that only takes cards now) and at the Bunkhouse.
Broadband internet access will be available in the Bunkhouse at some point during 2009. The Old Forge currently offers dial-up internet access.
Help is appreciated with minimizing the amount of rubbish generated. We now have full recycling facilities for bottles, cans and paper, and your accommodation venue should have the relevant containers. Nevertheless, visiting vessels are requested not to deposit their rubbish ashore.
The Miller sisters have recently (2008) set up Knoydart Pottery. Located in the old Pier Stores, opposite the Pier House, they sell hand-crafted pottery including plates, mugs, and wine-bottle stoppers. They also sell teas, coffees, breakfasts and lunches. They can be telephoned on 01687 460191.
There is a small shop on Knoydart, located in the same place as the Post Office. It sells tinned goods, chocolates, souvenirs and some camping equipment, as well as items of a more eclectic nature! You can telephone Bernie at the shop on 01687 462146.
