Message from the Knoydart Foundation and the South Knoydart Community Council arising from the current Covid-19 Outbreak.

Under normal circumstances, the Knoydart Community enthusiastically welcomes visitors to the peninsula, however, in these times of national emergency we feel we need to make prospective visitors aware that there are no medical and increasingly limited food purchase facilities on Knoydart to support a visit or a stay.

Most residents have now adopted social distancing measures and almost all tourist facing operators are closed or plan to close. The Knoydart Foundation and South Knoydart Community Council can therefore not recommend a visit to Knoydart for other than essential purposes during March and April.

Our local ferry service is a lifeline service who works tirelessly to deliver safe passage all year round for our local communities and visitors alike, they are committed to operate and support Knoydart and the local community through these difficult times and they have also committed to full refunds for any passengers who are unable to travel.

Additionally, the Knoydart Community would appreciate it if any visitor choosing not to follow this advise or whose visit is essential, follow the lead of members of the community and adhere to social distancing recommendations and if staying, self-isolate according to Government Guidelines.

This is a rolling recommendation and may go on for longer. We will review this towards the end of April.

The Knoydart Community values the contribution that visitors and tourists make to the Peninsula and we look forward to welcoming you with our usual warmth and hospitality once conditions improve.

Thank you for your consideration and patience.

Chairs of the Knoydart Foundation and the South Knoydart Community Council.

The Knoydart Foundation was established in 1997 to work on behalf of the community in taking ownership of the area of land covered by Knoydart Estate at the time. The Knoydart peninsula, which is not connected to the mainland road network, is part of a National Scenic Area (click to download information leaflet).

Knoydart Community Hall is a community-run venue located in the heart of Inverie Village. Along with a year-round programme of arts & music events the hall is a vital part of our community, acting as a centre for many activities including, sports, education, meetings & conferences and social events.

2018 is a big year for the Hall! Plans to renovate and extend the hall are afoot in order to improve the ability to provide a first class facility for our community and visitors. The existing building has been in need of extension for a number of years and we are now in a position to move this exciting project forward.
